The research-oriented program builds on a seven-semester bachelor's degree in media technology or electrical engineering and information technology or other related engineering and natural science programs. In the master's program, students acquire skills in the fields of media technology, media informatics and other engineering sciences. Due to the great freedom in the choice of modules, students can set their own focus in their studies.
Students acquire competencies in the research and development of new methods and algorithms for the production, processing, transmission, storage and playback of media content. This includes professional video and audio technology, virtual and mixed reality or the development of internet applications.
Many modules are also offered in English, as a large number of students come from other countries. This enables German-speaking students to prepare for a career in internationally active companies or for a scientific career at institutes and universities in Germany and abroad. The cooperation with the Ilmenau-based Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Media Technology offers students the opportunity to apply and deepen their knowledge in research projects.
With the new Center for Immersive Technologies, the TU Ilmenau has excellent facilities for teaching and research in the field of media technology.
In an extensive media project and the final master's thesis, students develop new methods, algorithms or devices in the field of media technology.
The interdisciplinary master's program in media technology builds on a solid foundation in media technology and qualifies students in a special way for the management of projects in companies, independent activities with leadership responsibility or activities in research and development. A doctorate also offers interesting prospects.
