About the person

My research focuses on methods to infer ultrafast charge carrier dynamics in solids from optical measurements, in particular pump-probe ellipsometry. These measurements require the use of high-power femtosecond lasers and nonlinear optics, which inherently introduces instabilities which need to be carefully considered in the analysis, as well as the non-ideal nature of real optical components. Additionally the problem of inferring a physical model from the data might be ill-posed. Therefor we apply probabilistic methods to characterize the entire pipeline from photons detected in the lab to simulations and inverse problems run on the computer to gain insight into the systems we investigate and their uncertainties.
