This lecture will cover the following topics:
Part 1: IP-based networks and performance considerations
Part 2: Performance evaluation using simulation
Introduction to performance evaluation, introduction to discrete event-driven simulation, simulation of a queuing system, basics of probability theory, obtaining results from simulation runs
Part 3: Performance evaluation by means of modeling
Modeling of distributed systems, objectives and methods of modeling, basics of traffic and queuing theory, Markov processes, elementary queuing systems, open and closed queuing networks.
Part 4: Statistical evaluation of complex problems.
Statistical evaluation of experiments and experiment design using analysis of variance (ANOVA).
