The conference, which marked the conclusion of the bilateral research project POP-MED between the University of Vienna and the Peace Institute Ljubljana, focused on research findings in the context of the migration crisis with an emphasis on the interplay of political communication, media and right-wing populism. Contributions came from a variety of research disciplines with a focus on political science as well as social science and communication studies. Nearly 30 scholars from ten nations participated in the conference, including Slovenia, Austria, Germany, Sweden, Spain, France, and the U.S. 16 participants presented on-site, while all others participated online.
In her presentation, Wagner-Olfermann presented parts of her dissertation on the media construction of political leadership in cross-border crises. She put a special emphasis on the discussion of her theoretical concept as well as the methodological approach.
