Sexual Health Information on Social Media

A wide range of health information is disseminated via Social Media. This also includes sexual and reproductive health information. Within a systematic scoping review, the Media Psychology group has identified N=72 publications analyzing the content of sexual health information on different social media platforms. The majority of studies (54%) addressed sexual and reproductive health information on YouTube, followed by Twitter (30%), and Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat. No studies were found for TikTok, Twitch, or Pinterest. Only 10 of the 72 studies examined the quality of sexual and reproductive health information on Social Media, rating the quality as rather low.

Research

Complex scientific questions and problems can often not be solved from the perspective of a single science alone. Interdisciplinarity, i.e. interdisciplinary cooperation, is therefore of great importance. Both inter-department cooperation at the TU Ilmenau and beyond its borders bundle competences and are an indispensable part of research at the IfMK.
