Martin Löffelholz publishes innovative overview of risk and crisis communication research

In the just published anthology "Risks, Crises, Conflicts. Challenges und perspectives of medial mediations" (Springer, 2022), Martin Löffelholz, head of the Department of Media Studies at the Technische Universität Ilmenau, provides an innovative overview of the development, results and challenges of risk and crisis communication research.

In his article "From Chernobyl to Corona Infodemics: Development, Results and Challenges of Risk and Crisis Communication Research", Martin Löffelholz first explains the emergence, internationalization and institutionalization of the research. He then concisely summarizes key research findings with regard to crisis prevention, preparation for, and management and evaluation of communication crises. Accordingly, crisis communication management is challenged in particular by the rapidly advancing datafication, algorithmization and automation of communication processes (including artificial intelligence).

Research

Complex scientific questions and problems can often not be solved from the perspective of a single science alone. Interdisciplinarity, i.e. interdisciplinary cooperation, is therefore of great importance. Both inter-department cooperation at the TU Ilmenau and beyond its borders bundle competences and are an indispensable part of research at the IfMK.
