How do we generate, store and distribute energy in a climate-neutral future? How do electricity grids work with 100% renewable energy? And how can technical innovation and sustainability be meaningfully combined?
In the Bachelor's degree program Sustainable Energy Systems at the TU Ilmenau you will learn to answer these questions engineering and natural sciences - and to actively and actively contribute to solutions for one of the greatest challenges of our time.
You start with a a solid basic education in:
Mathematics
physics
chemistry
electrical engineering
You need these basics to really understand modern energy systems - from solar cells and battery storage to power grids and hydrogen technologies.
Building on this, you will learn about key areas of sustainable energy systems:
Regenerative energy technology (e.g. solar, wind and energy storage technologies)
Electrical energy systems (power grids, system management, security of supply)
Electrochemistry (batteries, hydrogen, energy storage)
Sustainability assessment (life cycle assessment, resource cycles)
A large elective area gives you the opportunity to tailor your studies to your interests.
You do not have to not commit yourself immediately. In the first semesters you will learn the common basics. From the middle of your studies you can - accompanied by a mentoring program - set your personal focus, for example in:
Regenerative energy technology
Electrical energy systems
Electrochemistry and electroplating
This keeps your studies flexible and adapts to your interests.
Theory alone is not enough - that's why your studies are strongly practice- and project-oriented:
Laboratory internships in the first semesters
Project work on real sustainability issues
Teamwork as in research and industry
Research projects and Bachelor's thesis often in cooperation with companies or research institutions
You not only learn what works, but also how technical solutions are developed, evaluated and communicated.
With the Bachelor Sustainable Energy Systems many paths are open to you:
Development and planning of sustainable energy systems
Work in energy companies, engineering offices or start-ups
Sustainability assessment and technological consulting
Entry into an advanced Master's degree program (e.g. regenerative energy technology, electrical energy systems, electrochemistry)
In short: you combine technology, sustainability and future prospects.
