The aim of this project is to research and develop capillary AEM water electrolysis for green hydrogen. The physical foundations for understanding ion and mass transport will be laid and a scalable concept for components and cells will be developed. This new technology is intended to combine the advantages of capillary electrolysis according to Wallace et al. with the innovative anion-exchange membrane water electrolysis technology. In a Nature paper from 2022, efficiencies of 98 % were already achieved at a current density of 0.5 A/cm2.
