Identification and prediction of tyre-surface interaction parameters. - In: 16th International Conference of the International Society for Terrain-Vehicle Systems, (2008), S. 59-68

The paper discusses the problems of identification of the parameters characterizing the interaction of a tyre with different ground surfaces. The corresponding methods of tyre-surface contact monitoring are proposed on the basis of the fuzzy sets theory. The both cases of wheel rolling on the road and on deformable ground are considered with particular emphasis on the identification of the friction and rolling resistance parameters in relation to environmental properties and tyre loading modes. These fuzzy computing procedures can be used in various control systems of cars, off-road vehicles and agricultural machines as well as in applications of Intelligent Transport Systems.

Evaluation of tire contact properties using nondestructive testing : part 2: experimental determination and fuzzy model of the contact parch in the static state. - In: Journal of friction and wear, ISSN 1934-9386, Bd. 29 (2008), 6, S. 448-454

The paper presents the results of experimental determination of the contact parch area of various automobile tires in response to normal loading on the wheel and tire inflation pressure. The data are obtained for test bench conditions by visual processing of tread footprint. The test program covers five tire types of different manufacturers with different rubber blends. The experimental results are used to construct regression dependences and a multipurpose fuzzy model for determination of the contact parch area in response to loading on the wheel and tire inflation pressure.

Alterable fuzzy computing for monitoring tire parameters. - In: Proceedings of AVEC'08, ISBN 978-4-904056-22-6, (2008), S. 63-68

The new approach to the computing methods of the identification, forecasting and monitoring of tire parameters is described in the paper. It is based on the application of fuzzy sets with the dynamically alterable membership functions. A multi-stage fuzzy model is proposed to estimate the tire-road contact properties with relation to the short-term and long-term fuzzy prediction of friction parameters. For this purpose, the wide spectrum of experimental data has been served including the environmental data and results from the tire test rig using methods of visual information processing. The approach described in the paper can find the proper application both in the advanced automotive control systems and in the promising systems with controllable tire contact properties.

Alterable fuzzy sets in automotive control applications. - In: International journal of modelling, identification and control, ISSN 1746-6180, Bd. 3 (2008), 3, S. 305-317

This paper discusses the application of fuzzy sets with dynamically alterable membership functions for automotive control systems. The proposed method covers the building of control algorithms based on fuzzy logic with adjustment of the input and output variable descriptions during the control object operation. An application of alterable fuzzy sets is considered by the examples of two variants for the control processes with the different persistence of fuzzy object. In the former case, the wheel slip control in an active safety system is investigated. The second solution is considered for monitoring of tyre/surface friction properties in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSs). The simulation results obtained on Virtual Proving Ground (VPG) illustrate theoretical aspects of the presented research work.
