Compliant systems

Description

Compliant systems are mechanical systems that obtain their motion by deformation of compliant system sections, in extreme cases by deformation of the whole system. The advantages of compliant systems - no friction, ability to store energy, good prerequisites for miniaturization, no or easier assembly and low maintenance - make them interesting for special applications. For example, compliant systems are suitable for use in demanding environmental conditions, such as clean room, vacuum and space applications, as well as in precision engineering. Specific differentiated compliance in technical systems is a necessary requirement in many application areas, such as human-machine interaction and medical technology.

Targets

In order to strengthen the development of compliant systems on the national and international level and to take up the related new trends in various researches and applications, the development of the field of "Compliant Systems" should be advanced systematically, fundamentally and methodically in such a way as to enable a targeted application, methodical development and the emergence of new research problems, as well as to establish a transfer of systematic knowledge and methods to engineers.
