The motor vehicle as a complex technical product requires development competencies at a high level and in university breadth. The education in the Automotive Engineering degree programme is oriented towards the state of the art through intensive research cooperation with the automotive and supplier industry from Germany and abroad, especially in the areas of development, testing, production and quality assurance. The practice-oriented teaching is guaranteed by intensive training in vehicle-related design, measurement and simulation technology as well as by modern practical courses in the laboratory and on the vehicle testing grounds.

Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering is a typical subject of technology due to its combination of basic research and development of manufacturing processes (also production processes). It implements physical laws for the development of technical products and systems and encompasses the entire product cycle from research and development to design, calculation, construction, production, maintenance and operation to disposal. The spectrum of products and plants ranges from individual machine elements and machines to production lines and entire factories of the greatest complexity.

Mechatronics

Mechatronics is an interdisciplinary engineering science related to electrical engineering/electronics, computer science and mechanical engineering. The term mechatronics has become established worldwide and has become the hallmark of an interdisciplinary approach to the development, production and marketing of complex system products. Students on this course are therefore taught interdisciplinary skills and a method-oriented approach. They acquire the necessary skills for the development of mechatronic systems in the automotive industry, production engineering, medical device technology and other areas.

Optical Systems Engineering / Optronics

Optical Systems Engineering/Optronics is a cross-sectional science that combines the engineering knowledge of the specialist disciplines of optics, electronics, mechanics and information technology into a new discipline. It includes the totality of physical, chemical and biological natural laws and technologies for the generation, amplification, shaping, transmission, measurement and utilization of light. Students receive versatile training in the development, construction/design, modeling/simulation, technology and manufacturing of micro- and macrotechnical optronic products, machines, systems and processes.
