In 2012, the TU Ilmenau was the first technical university in Germany to receive the nationwide seal of approval for system accreditation.

With the system accreditation, all study degree programs  of the university are considered accredited and the national and international recognition of the degrees is certified.

On 10 July 2020, TU Ilmenau was again awarded the seal of approval of the foundation "System Accredited". The current system accreditation is limited in time and is valid until 30 September 2021. If the fulfilment of the issued conditions is proven in due time, it will be extended until 30 September 2026.

Regularly Reviewed

In the case of system accreditation, not a single study program, but the entire internal quality assurance systemof a higher education institution in the area of teaching and learning is the subject of accreditation.

The university institution must regularly, systematically and reliably ensure that all new study programmes meet the requirements of the Accreditation Council. For this purpose, the quality management system must evaluate the study programmes and the service areas relevant for teaching and studying. to check whether they are suitable for achieving the qualification objectives and guaranteeing the high quality of the respective educational programme.

Both internal and external students as well as university-external academic experts, representatives of professional practice and graduates are involved in the evaluations.
