Embedded in the processes of society as a whole, equality and equal opportunities are understood as an important cross-sectional task at Ilmenau University of Technology. The anchoring of equality in the various levels and fields of action of the university is our mission. Our goals are to break down barriers in order to enable the equal participation of all university members in university life in research and teaching.
Tasks and fields of activity
The Equal Opportunities Officer is the contact person for all employees and students of the TU Ilmenau for questions and advice on the subject of equality. She is committed to equal cooperation between women and men at the university. With its work, it supports the university management in the realisation of the legally anchored equal opportunities of the sexes and works towards the elimination of existing disadvantages. Together with the Equal Opportunities Council, support measures and campaigns are implemented.
- Monitoring of appointment and recruitment procedures
- Projects and measures to increase the proportion of women in the MINT sector (studies and research)
- Support measures for women at all status levels
- Advice and assistance on the following topics: Further training opportunities Reconciling family or studies and career Career advice for women at different qualification levels Discrimination, sexual harassment and violence as well as problems in the working environment
The Equal Opportunities Council is an elected representation of interests and supports the Equal Opportunities Officer of the University in the performance of her duties. The Equal Opportunities Council is committed to equal opportunities at the university. With its promotional measures, the Equal Opportunities Council provides targeted support for women and creates visibility for relevant topics of equal opportunities work with various campaigns.
The term of office of the elected members of the Equal Opportunities Council is three years. The Equal Opportunities Council consists of 13 members who come from the faculties, the service and administration areas and the student body. The central EqualOpportunities Officer is the chairperson of the council.
The Equal Opportunities Council promotes and supports the following from the budget of the Equal Opportunities Officer
- Congress trips for female academics and students
- further education for personal qualification
- the establishment of scientific networks of women (e.g. collogium lectures, talks on the establishment of research cooperations)

Thuringian Coordination Office for Science & Technology
The Thuringian Thringer Koordinierungsstelle Naturwissenschaft und Technik (ThüKo NWT) is based at the TU Ilmenau. Under the motto "Young women study successfully in Thuringia", the ThüKo NWT works for all and with all universities and universities of applied sciences in Thuringia that offer science, engineering and technical courses of study.
The dedicated team is the point of contact when it comes to questions of study orientation in the MINT area. The various offers of the ThüKo NWT help female students to better find their way through the jungle of numerous study options and to go their own way.
In the network "MINT-Studentinnen innovativ vernetzt" the ThüKo NWT supports female students of MINT subjects with different events.

Thuringian Competence Network for Gender Equality
The Thuringian Competence Network for Gender Equality (TKG) is a joint scientific institution of the Thuringian universities. Founded in 2013, the TKG sees itself on the one hand as an actor in higher education policy and on the other hand as a service facility for the Thuringian universities in order to initiate, develop and consolidate gender equality measures as well as to inform, advise and network those active in gender equality.
