We offer a general introduction to working with literature management programs and show you how to use them using the programs Citavi and EndNote as practical examples.

What are reference management programs used for? Literature management programs have the main tasks:

  • Recording, arranging, managing bibliographical references,
  • automated creation of bibliographies.

Information about EndNote and Citavi at the TU Ilmenau and the campus or state license for both programs can be found here.

Cite, but correctly!

The topic of "plagiarism" and its avoidance has been present everywhere where clean scientific work is concerned, and not just since the hullabaloo surrounding the doctoral theses of some prominent politicians. For anyone who wants to work scientifically - regardless of whether it is their first seminar paper, bachelor's, master's or doctoral thesis - it is indispensable to be familiar with the rules of correct scientific citation.

Especially with sources from the internet it is difficult to distinguish what can be quoted and how. The seminar gives the necessary practical advice to avoid all pitfalls of scientific writing in time, before one's own work suffers shipwreck.

The seminar "Quoting - but correctly!" is now available online - as a self-study unit on Moodle.
