The Virtual Worlds and Digital Games Group is concerned with technologies, systems and occurrences of Mediated Reality (including but not limited to Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR/AR), Mixed Reality (MR), Diminished Reality (DR), as well as individual manifestations of digital games (pervasive games, mobile MR games, Alternate Reality Games (ARG) etc.).

The Virtual Worlds and Digital Games Group at the Technical University of Ilmenau (TU Ilmenau) is looking for a research assistant to support our team in a new joint research project in the field of collaborative and distributed VR/AR environments:

Ph.D. Position in Augmented Reality (f/m/d)

For expanding our team we are looking for a colleague holding at least a master’s degree (or equivalent) in computer science, visual computing, or a comparable area. As a candidate you have experience in software development – in particular in object-oriented programming – preferably in C++. Further, you have substantial knowledge in one or several of the following areas:

  • Collaborative Virtual Environments (CVEs)
  • User representations (avatars)
  • Deep learning and convolutional neural networks
  • Outdoor tracking (in particular visual SLAM)
  • AR user interfaces and interaction techniques
  • Design and development of mobile AR apps

Further, you are fluent in English and/or German, you are able to present working results, provide good communication skills, and have capacity for teamwork. For candidates we provide the opportunity to work towards a Ph.D. as part of their job.
Within the joint research project, you will be responsible for various research and development tasks and support the acquisition of follow-up projects.
