Acknowledgement of Paternity

In order to lawfully ensure that the child is related to his/her father, an acknowledgement of paternity is required. This so-called acknowledgement of paternity is necessary when the parents of the child are not married to each other. By doing this, it is guaranteed that the child is entitled to receive financial support from his/her father. Furthermore, if the father passed away, the child would receive pension and also heritage.

It is possible to establish paternity before childbirth. In this case, the father’s name will be written in the birth certificate and book, such as with married parents.

The paternity test can be requested for free at the presence of the father the Youth Office. For this, you would need an ID card or passport of the father and birth certificate of the child. In order for the paternity to be valid, the mother must hand in an authenticated personal consent form to the authorities. The documents needed are: an ID card or passport, an authenticated copy of the acknowledgement of paternity as well as the birth certificate of the child or (for before childbirth) the maternity log.
