The challenge

Future mobile communication systems will be much more dynamic and flexible in terms of changes in access technology, topology, services, etc. This will allow for the fast implementation of innovative ideas as well as the fast adaptation to changes of the environment. On the other hand, this also raises many questions concerning security, stability, reliability, scalability and manageability of future systems.


Our focus is on self-organization of mobile communication systems taking into account protocol, network and radio aspects as well as their combination. Self-organization allows for the fast adaptation of highly complex systems to changing requirements. We study the foundations for flexible future mobile communication networks. We develop mechanisms for the autonomous, dynamic and distributed coordination of future mobile communication systems. Self-organization is applied to the radio system, protocols, services and the network as a whole.

Disaster management

Our application scenarios are disaster networks that require an aggressive approach to network operation. The coordinated adaptation of radio, protocols and network aspects is essential to provide disaster services, e.g. localization of individuals, emergency communication, etc.
