In January and April 2016, Dr. Andreas Schwarz (Department of Media Studies) was invited as visiting lecturer at Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridsky in Sofia, Bulgaria. Besides giving guest lectures as well as a PhD workshop on crisis communication, he started negotiating a potential Erasmus cooperation between Sofia University and TU Ilmenau including agreements on student exchange and exchange of academic staff. The starting point of that potential cooperation would be an exchange program between the Faculty of Economic Sciences and Media (TU Ilmenau) and the Faculty of Journalism and Mass Communication (Sofia University).

Sofia University is the oldest and biggest university in Bulgaria with 16 faculties and 105 special subjects being taught. The university is considered being one of the most important academic and scientific centers in the Balkan region.
