Ladies and Gentlemen,

Engineering for a Changing World: this was the motto of the 60th Ilmenau Scientific Colloquium ISC at the TU Ilmenau. Over 400 international participants from science and practice from 18 countries came together during the five-day conference to discuss the latest scientific findings in mechanical engineering - in precision engineering, in mechatronics, in the development of technical systems and innovative materials or in productive teaming, the cooperation between man and machine in production. Questions of resource efficiency and the circular economy played a special role here.

In the opening lecture, Dr. Heike Riel, IBM Fellow, Director of Science & Technology and Head of IBM Research Quantum Europe at IBM Research in Zurich, took a look at nanoscience and nanotechnologies. Dr. Andreas Kaufer, Director of Operation of the European Southern Observatory, discussed the current status of the construction of the "Extremely Large Telescope", the world's largest telescope.

We would like to thank all participants for their interest, their commitment and for the exciting presentations and workshops.

With compliments

Professor Kai-Uwe Sattler | President of the Technische Universität Ilmenau

Professor Jean Pierre Bergmann | Dean of the Department of Mechanical Engineering

Professor René Theska | Head of Organisation
