learning outcome

Students are able to evaluate relevant research literature in the specific field of organizational change. Based on the literature they understand the important role of communication in change processes. They are qualified to design change management intervention plans as an integral part of change programs and they understand the role of change agents. Furthermore, they are able to design change communication concepts for change management programs. They are able to present their projects in an oral presentation and to design change interventions.


This course is built around a selection of well known papers on Organizatioonal Change published in Harvard Business Review (10-Must-Reads on Change) supplemented by selected papers chosen by the lecturer. Topics include problems of leadership, organizing change programs, persuasion of key people, implementation, and last but not least communication. While these papers form the theoretical background on Organizational Change covered in this unit, the course pays special attention to the role of leadership, planning and implementation of change interventions and communication in Organizational Change Programs. Based on both communication theories and motivation theories, strategies to improve readiness for change and ability to change are developed.
