basic knowledge on communication, communication theory, and media research

learning outcome

After the introduction to communicator research students know the most important theories and findings of communicator research. They are able to describe the basic principles of the empirical research process and can apply them to questions of communicator research. Through the the practice-oriented teamwork in the seminar students are also familiar with the working conditions, core tasks and central challenges of the professional fields of journalism, public relations and advertising.

contentThe course offers an introduction to communicator research in general and selected fields of professional specialization. Students will analyze different fields of public communication with a stronger focus on journalism and public relations with regard to theoretical approaches, findings and the status quo of the professions.In the winter term, students will attend a readings-based course with several plenary sessions.
