Software & Systems Engineering (RCSE)

Course offered by the System and Software Engineering group, Winter semester 2016/17


  • Master "Research in Computer & Systems Engineering": mandatory course for the first semester (Module "Basic Studies")
  • 2+1 SWS (two lecture hours per week throughout the semester plus seminar), 5 LP (credit points)


  • Appointments for oral exams can be reserved at the Secretariat
  • The lecture starts on Tuesday, October 11, at 13:00 in room Oe117. All organizational issues can be discussed there.
  • Please enter your participant information in the course moodle. After the first lecture, participants have to select one of the student talk topics in the moodle system until October 26.
  • Participants have to register officially with their Thoska cards until November 10 to be able to get the credits and take part in talks and exam.
  • The first three seminar appointments on October 18, November 1 and 15 will be used for lecture material.
  • The student talks start on November 29. (The "Übung" appointments in week "G" mentioned in the Vorlesungsverzeichnis contain these student seminars which are scheduled as written below) The talks have been scheduled, see the table.
  • The final student seminar with all remaining talks will be longer and take place on January 10, 2017 in Zuse-Bau Z2073.
  • There will be no lecture and seminar on January 24 because of a conference.

  • Lecture: one lectures every week, Tuesday 13:00 - 14:30, seminar room Oe 117  (Oeconomicum building), start: October 11
  • Seminar: after the lectures in room HU 202; schedule is published below.
  • Parts of the course: lecture, reading assignments, talks prepared and given by students, oral exam
  • Grading: individual oral exam after the semester, ~20-30 minutes
    • 70% exam
    • 30% student talk
  • Please register for the class with your Thoska card!
  • Please contact the secretary of the group to get an appointment for the exam at the end of the semester
  • All parts of the course will be held in English

Seminar and Student Talks

At scheduled dates, there is a seminar-style meeting with short talks given by the students after the lecture (15:00-16:30) in room HU202.  Planned days are posted in the table below.  Assignment of topics to participants is done via moodle

Each talk must not exceed 12 minutes excluding discussion time! Please email your presentation (either PDF or PPT format) to Prof. Zimmermann on the day before the seminar, to give all presentations using one laptop computer.
