The events "Insights into Science" are organized in cooperation with institutes and departments of the TU Ilmenau. The group strength is usually 12 people, so that an independent work in the laboratories and at the experimental sites is possible. For larger groups a combination of several events makes sense.
The timeframe covers approximately five hours from 9:00 to 15:00. After two hours of thematic work in the morning, a lunch break of one hour and a session of two hours in the afternoon follows.
The events are aimed at pupils from high-school senior classes and are particularly suitable for groups of pupils who attend physics classes with a higher level of requirements.
The basic types and functions of the eyes are explained, as well as the possibilities and limitations of stereoscopy and its technical use.
The production of small structures on a wafer is tested in the lithographic process and a viewing and evaluation carried out on a scanning electron microscope.
The question of the relationship between the light guide and the touchscreen and what high-strength materials are is examined.
The possibilities of 3D visualization and their importance for supporting modern product development are explained. Basic techniques of three-dimensional representation of image and sound are presented, basic skills of geometric modeling practically tested and showed in a demonstration.
