The one class 10-semester majors offer many opportunities to develop self-initiative and acquire additional qualifications. Diploma students can combine main and minor subjects flexibly and also select minor subjects "foreign to the major" if this seems to make sense for a future professional career. The new diploma majors offer broad opportunities to acquire intercultural competences. During their studies, students can spend between two and a maximum of four semesters abroad, writing their diploma thesis abroad or doing a professional internship abroad. At the end of the studies, the internationally approved diploma with the occupational title "Diploma in Engineering" is awarded. The equivalence of the diploma with the master's degree is guaranteed by the TU Ilmenau and noted on the diploma certificate. Initiation of the diploma program will initially be part of a six-year pilot project. Meanwhile, TU Ilmenau and the Thuringian Ministry of Economics, Science and Digital Society are conducting an evaluation to determine whether the model should be created on a long-term basis and extended to other degree programs.
