Electrical Engineering and Information Technology is a department of engineering which deals with the application of elecricity science in practice. There are fundamental differentiations between an energy-oriented, physical-constructive-material-oriented and an information-oriented focusing. The first one is concerned with the generation of electricity in power stations, with the transport of electricty in cables and open wires and with the utilization of electricity in electrical machines and installations. Another main topic is the planning and realization of electronic components, wirings and sensors to regulate and monitor energy technological systems.
The information-oriented differentiation deals with techniques that are concerned with the collection, presentation, transfer and processing of information. Therefore communication technology and communications engineering, electronic measurement technique, microwave engineering, multi-media technology and automation engineering are fundamental fields of knowledge that can be mentioned here.
The physical-constructive-material-oriented differentiation percieves itself as, on the one hand, a connector between energy- and information-oriented electrical engineering and, on the other hand, an self-contained specialisation in the quickly developing sector of micro- and nanoelectronics and technology. Material selection and material development together with the development of complex technologies lead to the design, production and characterization of electronic devices and systems.
On the basis of a solid interdisciplinary background knowledge, electrical engineers and information technicians research and develop new principles and processes in the range of information and communication technology, micro- and nanoelectronics, electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, automation engineering and electrical power systems. The Master of Science in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology is consecutive. It is based on a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology and other engineering degrees and qualifies for a career in national and international business enterprises.
