Award of the LIONS Club Arnstadt-Ilmenau

Janek Fehlbier, a student of the Master's degree program in Technical Cybernetics and Systems Theory, has received this year's sponsorship award from the LIONS Club Arnstadt-Ilmenau. The club annually donates the 1,000 euro sponsorship award for outstanding academic achievement and remarkable social and community involvement.

Janek Fehlbier began his bachelor's degree in Technical Cybernetics and Systems Theory at TU Ilmenau in 2014 and graduated with honors. He gained his first experience in industry during his six-month internship at the machine tool manufacturer Trumpf, where he also wrote his bachelor's thesis. During his master's studies, he remained true to the specialization in robotics he had already chosen during his bachelor's studies. He also attends lectures in other fields to expand his interdisciplinary knowledge. In addition to his studies, he works as a student trainee at driveXpert, a spin-off of TU Ilmenau located in the Technology and Start-up Centre. In 2021, Janek Fehlbier completed a semester abroad as an Erasmus student at the Norwegian University of Technology in Trondheim. He is currently about to begin his master's thesis in the field of control engineering.

From the beginning of his studies, Janek Fehlbier has been involved as a tutor and supports first-year students at TU Ilmenau in their social and professional integration. He was a member of the Ersti-Wochen-Organisation, a department of the student council, and in 2019, as one of the three department heads, he took on significant responsibility for the large-scale student project. In close cooperation with the Central Student Advisory Service of the TU Ilmenau, he planned the week at the beginning of the academic year and selected the tutors. From 2016 to 2019, he was also active as a group supervisor at the Children's University. His commitment was honored with the honorary certificate of the student council.

To give prospective students an understanding of his degree programme in Technical Cybernetics and Systems Theory, he reports on his positive experiences during his studies in the image film for the degree programme on the YouTube channel of TU Ilmenau. During his time in Trondheim, he also supported the campaign to promote Erasmus stays abroad. On the university's Instagram page, he encourages other students to spend a semester abroad and reported on the feasibility of such an undertaking even under pandemic conditions.
