The TU Ilmenau mourns the death of Dr. Klaus Hanella. He passed away on 10 September 2021 at the age of 84.
In memoriam: Dr. Klaus Hanella
Klaus Hanella studied at the then Hochschule für Elektrotechnik Ilmenau from 1954 to 1960 and, after completing his studies, worked as an assistant and senior assistant in the field of insulation and high-voltage technology.
Dr. Klaus Hanella spent his entire working life at the Technischen Hochschule Ilmenau, which later became the Technische Universität Ilmenau.
In the time of the political change he was actively involved in the formation of a representation of interests, as a forerunner of the staff council and the foundation of the staff association of the union of education and science of the TU Ilmenau. Since 1990 and until his retirement in 2002 he was chairman of the staff council and the GEW staff association. He was never indifferent to the fate of the TU Ilmenau and its employees. In his down-to-earth manner he interfered in concrete matters, competently, constructively and collegially. He was tireless in his efforts to ensure that the university's staffing levels were appropriate to its tasks. In the Main Staff Council, Dr. Klaus Hanella represented the interests of the TU Ilmenau. He was a recognized and appreciated person because of his open, critical, direct and helpful nature.
For his services to the development of a democratic university structure, Dr. Klaus Hanella was awarded the university's Medal of Honour on 24 January 2012.
It is in silent mourning that we take leave of Dr. Klaus Hanella. We will cherish his memory.
