17 June 2020: Letter from Presidential Board

17 June 2020

Dear students, dear colleagues,

Since last weekend, a new legal regulation of the State of Thuringia has been in effect to contain the spread of the corona virus SARS-CoV-2. In addition, last Friday the Thuringian State Parliament passed a "Law for the implementation of necessary measures in connection with the corona pandemic", which is still to be promulgated.

Both have a direct impact on studying and working at our university. The Presidential Board in cooperation with the Staff Council and the university's internal "Coronavirus" crisis management team must therefore adapt the existing infection control concept to the new legal requirements.

The attached new version of the infection protection concept of the TU Ilmenau takes this into account. This contains changes or relaxations of the previously applicable regulations, particularly in the area of external access to buildings, the possible occupancy of offices, business trips in Germany and abroad and committee meetings and conferences.

In addition, please allow me once again to point out that examinations are generally held in classroom form and that the examination period of the summer semester 2020 has been extended for the entire lecture-free period (from 20.07. to 30.09.2020). Detailed regulations can be found in the current "Statutes on Special Provisions for Studies, Examination and Doctoral Studies due to the SARS CoV-2 Pandemic 2020" dated June 12, 2020.

The Presidential Board intends to conduct the winter semester 2020/21 as an attendance semester. This should not exclude the possibility that elements from the current online semester will be adopted. Of course, this is also subject to the further development of the corona pandemic and the resulting legal possibilities.

Last but not least, I would like to say "Thank you" once again - for your active support, your tolerance in dealing with unusual and certainly often very stressful situations and your patience until the hopefully not too distant return to normality.

Kind regards,

Univ.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil.

Vorläufiger Leiter der TU Ilmenau
