Influences of instructions about operations on the evaluation of the driver take-over task in cockpits of highly-automated vehicles. - In: HUCAPP, (2021), S. 72-80

This paper works towards the development of a technologically independent framework to help render human-centered examinations of the driver take-over task present in highly-automated vehicles comparable. Based on available literature, the state-of-the-art and best-practices for driver take-over task examinations are analyzed and discussed. It turned out, that the scope of the studies’ documentation, their level of detail as well as their wording differs significantly among themselves with respect to the instructions which were given to the test persons. Besides the stimulus materials made available to the test persons during the examinations, boundary conditions for the solution space of the task execution are defined by the instructions about operations provided. Therefore, the focus of this paper lies on the structural analysis of such instructions, suitable for a human-centered examination of the driver take-over task. By defining new demands for their documentation and enhancing comparability between future studies, this paper aims on holistically improving the robustness and validity of findings about human-performance in the field of automated vehicles.

Human-centered test setups for the evaluation of human-technology interaction in cockpits of highly-automated vehicles. - In: Human interaction, emerging technologies and future applications IV, (2021), S. 555-562

In order to gain a holistic understanding about the operational use of the distinct implementations of driving simulators in research, this paper presents a overview of existing studies dealing with human-technology interaction in cockpits of highly-automated vehicles. One aspect of this work was to find a connection between research questions in scope of the respective studies on the one hand and the test environments being used to assess them on the other. Furthermore, based on the conducted analysis of scientific literature, human-centered descriptive factors required for the definition of a novel, standardized and technologically-independent framework for future examinations of the driver take-over task were identified.

Nutzerzentrierte Interaction Design Patterns für International Data Space Ökosysteme. - Ilmenau : Universitätsbibliothek, 2021. - 1 Online-Ressource (398 Seiten)

Interaction design patterns for International Data Space-based ecosystems. - In: Human interaction, emerging technologies and future applications IV, (2021), S. 315-322

The International Data Space (IDS) is a new type of concept for the economy to provide a global virtual data room. In this, economically critical and high-risk tasks are executed by human users. This paper deals with the question of how to integrate the requirements of the participants into the IDS and which novel approaches and methods can be used to develop UI Interaction Design Patterns (IDP) for novel technologies with unknown users and tasks.

Development of user-centred interaction design patterns for the International Data Space. - In: UX research and design, (2021), S. 144-155

This paper describes a set of methods for the development of user-centred interaction design patterns (IDP) based on the International Data Space (IDS). The IDS is to be understood as a virtual market place where data and products can be bought and sold as well as related contracts concluded. Based on the existing reference model of the IDS, new types of user interfaces (UI) will be created for this purpose. It is important for the developers of the UI’s that the users and the associated core tasks are known, so that the interactions can be designed in a user-friendly interface. IDP’s are intended to support developers in developing applications. The patterns are design patterns and represent proven solutions for frequently occurring problems for the developers when designing the UI. They also provide design alternatives and can effectively support communication between potential end users and developers.

SUMPs implementation: designation of capacity gaps of local authorities in the delivery of sustainable mobility projects. - In: Smart and Sustainable Planning for Cities and Regions, (2021), S. 239-258

There are numerous initiatives at the European level that are aimed at increasing the capacity of cities with regard to sustainable mobility planning by developing guidelines and various forms of training materials. An important prerequisite for systematic capacity building is to understand what capacity actually means in the context of mobility planning and which concrete factors influence the ability to shape and deliver sustainable mobility solutions. In the SUITS EU project, a tool for capacity assessment was developed and tested with six participant cities. Through interviews and workshops with mobility stakeholders in the participating cities, 15 challenges that the cities face while planning and implementing mobility plans were identified and led to the design of a set of 54 indicators that assess the capacity of an authority to develop and implement a mobility plan. The presented methodology enables authorities to self-assess their performance and capacity and identify the sources of the problems they face and that are impeding their effectiveness in developing and implementing mobility plans. The application in the six participating cities demonstrated that the evaluation tool here introduced is comprehensive, encompasses all the aspects of the environment in which a local authority (LA) operates and effectively highlights the areas where interventions are required so that the LAs can systematically increase their capacity.
