Sophia Gaenssle, M.Sc. (Ilmenau University of Technology) published a new discussion paper „Attention Economics of Instagram Stars: #Instafame and Sex Sells?“.
The empirical paper analyses 500 Instagram stars within the categories (1) fashion and beauty, (2) fitness and sports, (3) music, (4) photo and arts, (5) food and vegan, to answer the research questions: Does body exposure drive Instagram success? Is there a difference between male and female content in this regard? Taking all results into account, this paper raises the question if there is a gender pay gap in social media.
