An electromagnetic wave impinging on a gold nanosponge coherently excites many electromagnetic hot-spots inside the nanosponge, yielding a polarization-dependent scattering spectrum. In contrast, a hole, recombining with an electron, can locally excite plasmonic hot-spots only within a horizon given by the lifetime of localized plasmons and the speed carrying the information that a plasmon has been created. This horizon is about 57 nm, decreasing with increasing size of the nanosponge. Consequently, photoluminescence from large gold nanosponges appears unpolarized.

Die elektromechanische Zerkleinerung (EMZ) hat aufgrund der Nutzung von hartmagnetischen Mahlkörpern und deren intensive Bewegung mit sich ändernden Magnetfeldern große Potenziale, nicht nur hohe Produktfeinheiten zu erzielen, sondern vor allem den Energiebedarf bei der Zerkleinerung signifikant zu senken. Zur Evaluierung dieser Potenziale wurden die Magnetfeldverteilung im Prozessraum simuliert, die Mahlkörperbewegung experimentell analysiert sowie Zerkleinerungsexperimente mit verschiedenen Materialien durchgeführt. Aus den Ergebnissen wurden Abhängigkeiten zur Auslegung von EMZ-Anlagen abgeleitet. (Electromechanical milling (EMZ) is the process of using intensively moving hard magnetic milling beads together with time variable and location variable magnetic fields. EMZ is an excellent milling method to use when extremely fine materials are required. An added benefit of EMZ is that energy consumption is significantly decreased. To evaluate the effectiveness of EMZ, we simulated the most effective magnet field distribution, we analyzed the milling bead movement, and we performed experiments with various materials. In this work, we discuss the results of our findings.)
