The students know and understand relevant research topics of the economic analysis of media markets, including the state-of-the-art theories, models and methods. They also know and understand the relevant regulations of competition in media markets.


Students are able:
- to independently apply the learned models and methods to appropriate problems of media economics;
- to analyze and evaluate current scientific and economic policy and regulatory problems with the help of the state-of-the-art scientific methods and theories;
- to apply scientific theories and methods to relevant real and counterfactual problems and to independently draw conclusions for theory and economics policy.


The students acquire and deepen the competences to present tasks and results in the form of a term paper and to apply them in the context of a final written examination.

The exam of the module Media Economics consists of two parts:

- a written exam about the contents of Media Economics 1 and 2 at the end of the summer semester (120 minutes).

- a term paper that accompanies the course in the winter semester.


Both exam parts must be taken individually and are included in the overall assessment in equal parts.

For students enrolled in the master programs Business Informatics (Wirtschaftsinformatik) and Media and Communication Sciences, the examination consists of a term paper accompanying the course and a presentation of this work in the winter semester. Attendance and participation in all lectures and all presentations is required.
