This lecture provides insight into ongoing research in the broader field of communication studies and especially in the research realized at the Institute of Media and Communication Science (IfMK). Currently discussed theories, objects of research, methodological innovations, and research results are relevant topics.

In the first weeks of the semester scholars from the different departments of the IfMK will present current research topics, emerging trends in the field, elaborating in the objects of research, the conceptual and theoretical approaches used and the methods applied in order to empirically study the respective research areas.

Furthermore, the research modules that will start in the current semester will be introduced. This will help the students to make informed decisions about the modules they would like to attend.

In the second part of the semester students (or small student groups) will develop a state of the art overview of a specific trend in media and communications. The selection of the trends will be based on proposals provided by the institute´s departments. The results will be summarized in a term paper and presented in sessions at the end of the semester.
