learning outcome

Students are able to work independently on a research-related or practice-oriented problem using media and communication science methods within a specified period of time

Students can describe the subject of topic of the media project, identify its relevance, objectives (practice-oriented media project) or research questions (research-oriented media project) as well as describe the theoretical models used, the state of development and research, methodology and relevant scientific literature.

Students can independently plan, develop and create a practice- or research-oriented media project and document it in a project report.

content

The media project is an independent assignment of the students under the supervision of IfMK staff.

The media project can be realized as a practice-oriented or research-oriented media project. Topics are offered by the departments; students’ own suggestions are welcome after consultation with the lecturers.

a)      A practice-oriented media project involves the conception and/or production of a media product, e.g. a website, a brochure, a photo series or similar. The media product and a project report documenting the development of the project and justifying the conception or production process on the principle of scientific methods must be handed in.

b)      A research-related media project focuses on empirical data collection in the field of media research. Under guidance, empirical data is collected and presented in appealing format. The focus of the project is on creative and practical data collection as well as graphic data preparation. The data collected and the documentation of the study will be submitted in the form of a scientific report.

The media project can be produced in German or English in consultation with the supervisors. Depending on the subject matter, media projects can be completed as individual or group work (project teams of no more than 5 people)
