The students understand a special research topic from the scientific field of the supervising university lecturer. This person must be a professor, juniorprofessor or habilitated staff member of the Department of Economic Sciences and Media or of a subject area whose modules are included in the curriculum.

After successfulcompletion of the module, students are able to understand selected topics fromeconomics or law (including industrial engineering and business informatics),place it in the context of the literature, present it coherently and criticallyevaluate it. They are able to do this by researching, classifying andappreciating the state of the academic literature. Successful students will beable to identify and systematize various academic opinions and strands ofliterature. They are also capable of identifying and specifying certain sub-aspectsof a topic. They can reflect the state of the art of scientific theory andapply it to the chosen research question, they master the scientific methodsappropriate to the subject of the master’s thesis and apply them in a result-orientedway. Furthermore, students are able to deal with open questions according to thesystemic approach of the respective discipline and take an independentposition. Successful students have the competences to present the developedquestions and results orally as well as in writing, while complying with theformal and content-related requirements of scientific work.

Independent work on asubject-specific topic under supervision, including the conception of a workplan, the work on literature, the development of necessary scientific methods, theimplementation and evaluation, the discussion of results, and the preparationof the master’s thesis.
