previous knowledge and experienceBasic knowledge of analysis and linear algebra; knowledge of mechanics as taught in a lecture "Mechanics and Thermodynamics" is desirable.
learning outcomeStudents are able to apply basic mathematical methods of physics and theoretical methods of mechanics to concrete problems. They have the ability to set up equations for the mechanics of single and many-particle systems in Newtonian formulation, they understand the various formulations of mechanics and can solve single and many-particle systems analytically or numerically. During the lectures, students learned and understood methods and were able to practice and use them in the exercises. They help each other to deepen their understanding of the course content by asking questions.
contentMechanics of single and many-body systems in Newtonian formulation; Lagrangian formulation  of mechanics; two-body central force problem; Hamiltonian formulation of mechanics; Hamilton-Jacobi theory
media of instruction and technical requirements for education and examination in case of online participationmainly blackboard, also beamer presentation and handouts
literature / referencesTextbooks on analytical mechanics (a large selection of suitable books is available in German and English; e.g. Reiner M. Dreizler, Cora S. Lüdde, Walter Greiner)
