| ID of group | 2426 (Theoretical Physics II / Computational Physics) |
| module leader | Prof. Dr. Kathy Lüdge |
| language | Englisch |
| term | Sommersemester |
| previous knowledge and experience | Basic knowledge of electrodynamics as taught in the lecture "Electricity and Optics" as well as advanced mathematical skills as taught in the lecture Quantum Mechanics 1 and in the subject DGL and Fourier Transform are required. For the simulations, programming skills in accordance with the Theoretical Physics 1 module are required. |
| learning outcome | After the lecture, students are able to analytically describe electrodynamic phenomena from electrostatics to light propagation and understand numerical simulation tools. They understand the methodological proximity to quantum mechanics and analytical mechanics in particular. During the lectures, students have become familiar with and understood important methods and are able to practice and use them in the exercises. They can help each other to deepen their understanding of the course content by asking questions. They have the technical skills to work on relevant problems in writing and can discuss the topics of the lecture orally. |
| content | Electrostatics: Coulomb potential, dipole fields and multipole development, Green's functions, continuity conditions, surface charges, Maxwell's equation as a whole; Magnetic statics: Biot-Savart lawElectrodynamics: wave equation, ray and wave optics, near-field optics, plasmons;Outlook: Gauge freedom, relativistic covariate formulation, coupling to quantum systems, simulation of a self-selected physical problem |
