| max. Teilnehmerzahl | |
| Vorkenntnisse | Knowledge of the Biomedical Engineering (BSc & MSc) program. |
| Lernergebnisse und erworbene Kompetenzen | Proseminar: Students understand a specific research topic from the field of biomedical engineering. They are able to 1. record, classify and evaluate the state of the art for a given research question. 2. plan, carry out and evaluate a given experiment. 3. plan, implement and test a practical structure or algorithm for a given problem. Students are able to research and evaluate scientific and technical literature. They are able to establish dependencies between a specific problem and various areas of application. Literature seminar: Students are able to understand and classify current specialist literature. They acquire basic skills in scientific discussion. Presentation skills and knowledge transfer skills are acquired. Students understand the content of scientific publications, can evaluate them critically and are able to communicate this specialist content clearly and correctly. After the literature and proseminar, students are able to correctly assess the acceptance of their performance by their fellow students. They are able to weigh up the priorities of their actions and evaluate the actions of others in comparison to their own standards. |
| Inhalt | The goal of any research must be publication. Whether this publication happens as a patent, as a journal publication or as a product, e.g. in a start-up company, is irrelevant. The Proseminar therefore focuses on the analysis, evaluation and classification of publications and offers room for an own synthesis process. The Proseminar includes the independent treatment of a research topic, which was not a direct component of the previous training. The goal is to comprehend, classify and evaluate the state of the art on a given topic. On the basis of previous training, students work their way into the topic area, finding further literature on given literature and thus achieving a comprehensive treatment of the topic area. They classify the topic area in the scientific spectrum of engineering questions and present the results in writing and orally. The Proseminar instructions include specific further aspects of content. The literature seminar is based on the "Journal Club" format. A minimum of three, a maximum of six students in the BME-R master's program form a group and choose a topic (each topic is assigned only once). At the beginning of the semester, six scientific publications are distributed to the group by the supervisors. All group members read through all six publications in order to actively participate in the discussion. Each student chooses one of the given journal publications and prepares an approximately 10-minute talk to present the contents of the publication and finally formulates three to five theses. The presentation and the theses serve as the basis for an approx. 20-minute discussion in the group under the guidance of the academic staff (supervisors). The supervisor evaluates the literature seminar incl. discussion together with the students. |
| Medienformen und technische Anforderungen bei Lehr- und Abschlussleistungen in elektronischer Form | Workshops with presentation (blackboard, handouts, laptop, beamer), discussions, elaborations. |
| Literatur | Topic-specific literature will be named by the supervisor at the beginning of the literature seminar. H.
