  • Students understand the cultural and economic relevance of the video sharing platform YouTube in today’s media world (YouTube is the most visited website on the internet together with Google and Facebook)

  • Students are familiar with the current state of media and communication research on YouTube (i.e. on YouTubers, YouTube content, YouTube audiences, and YouTube effects).

  • Students understand the concept of “YouTube stars” and their “fan communities”

  • Based on the current state of YouTube research students are able to conduct empirical studies on YouTube stars their fan communities
