After the lecture the students have acquired basic knowledge of sustainability and methods of sustainability assessment according to ISO 14040/14044.  Successful students can depict and explain the principles, terms, and definitions of sustainability assessments. After discussing the examples in the lecture, the students are enabled to interpret, summarize and explain sustainability assessments.
After working on a sustainability assessment in a group assignment in the seminar, successful students can conduct a life cycle assessment according to ISO 14040/14044.
Successful students are able to differentiate, assess, discuss, evaluate, and criticize life cycle assessments due to the discussion during the seminar and the colloquium. They can develop life cycle assessments for specific tasks.
The students can conduct experiments to determine the energy consumption of plastic processing machinery and the energy need to process polymers. They are familiar with measuring energy consumptions, integrating the data into life cycle assessments and evaluating input data for the assessments.
After the group work in the seminar and the practical units, successful students can discuss, evaluate, and present specific life cycle assessments.
