Dr.-Ing. Atif Mahboob, scientist in the Product and Systems Engineering Group at TU Ilmenau, has been honoured with the Scientific Award 2021 of the prostep ivip association.
Dr. Mahboob received the prestigious award for his dissertation "Modelling and Use of SysML Behaviour Models for Achieving Dynamic Use Cases of Technical Products in different VR Systems". The thesis presents a new method for the systematic support of interdisciplinary product development by configurable models of product, environment and actors from different product life phases. The approaches from the field of Model-Based Systems Engineering were used in the development of this work, which are relevant for science as well as and especially for industry. The special feature of Dr. Mahboob's approach lies in the consistency of the model description across several phases of product development up to verification using virtual reality technology. In addition, the Ilmenau scientists succeeded in scaling virtual reality technology - from smartphones to immersive CAVE systems - so that different fields of application are supported in a targeted manner. The work was carried out in a DFG project at the Competence Center Virtual Reality at TU Ilmenau and Product and Systems Engineering Group (formerly: Engineering Design Group) under the supervision of Prof. Christian Weber.
The prostep ivip association, based in Darmstadt, sees itself as a globally active, independent network of industry, IT and research. The focus of its work is on the development of future-oriented, competitive solution approaches and standards for product data management and virtual product creation. Founded in 1993 by IT managers from well-known companies such as BMW, Bosch, Continental, Daimler, Delphi, Opel, Siemens, Volkswagen, the association now comprises 180 member companies.
The Scientific Award 2021 was presented during this year's prostep ivip Symposium. Dr. Mahboob was able to present key results from his work in the form of a scientific talk to the expert audience from industry and academia at the event.
