Hints for writing articles
You would like to submit an article for UNIonline? Please follow the instructions below when writing your text:
Topic
Please choose a topic that might be of interest to the target groups of employees, students, funding bodies, alumni, graduates and partners of the TU Ilmenau.
Text format
Please send your manuscript as a Word document with simple continuous text by e-mail to the editorial office.
Text size
The length should be as small as possible and as large as necessary. Depending on the nature of the topic and its importance, it should be between 1,200 and 6,000 characters.
Text structure
Please formulate a headline that succinctly and factually paraphrases the core message of your article.
The most important facts should be placed right at the beginning of the text. For longer articles, subheadings and quotations are suitable for loosening up the text.
Language
Easy readability and comprehensibility are important, as UNIonline reaches a wide range of readers. Please explain unavoidable technical terms so that laypersons can also understand the text.
For better readability, UNIonline uses only the masculine form of language in some parts of the text. The chosen formulations address all genders equally.
Contact details
At UNIonline it is possible to record contact details for enquiries or for people interested in your research to contact you. For the contact field, please state your name, function, structural unit (e.g. subject area), telephone number, e-mail address and, if applicable, www address.
Photos
At least one photo is required for each contribution. Please make sure that your photos are in jpg format and have a resolution of at least 300 dpi. The pictures should primarily be in landscape format.
Some topics are difficult to illustrate. In this case, infographics or the cover of a publication can be used as image motifs.
Source citation and caption
Observe basic image rights such as copyright and personal rights. Ask the persons depicted whether they agree to publication on the Internet and possible forwarding of the photo to media such as newspapers or social media. Name the photographer and formulate a caption.
The editors reserve the right to shorten and/or reproduce the spirit of contributions.
The editors accept no liability for unsolicited manuscripts and photos.
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact the editorial office. You will find the contact details in the imprint.
