Endowed professorship in "Industrial Electronics" continued after successful work

The endowed professorship "Industrial Electronics" held by Professor Dr.-Ing. Tobias Reimann since 2009 has been permanently established at TU Ilmenau. The Group of the same name and its extensive, very successful activities in teaching, research and cooperation with partners inside and outside the university have thus been consolidated and securely positioned for the future. The chair will continue to be financed by third-party funds.

The Group Industrial Electronics is located at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology and is closely linked to the Group Power Electronics and Controls in Electrical Power Engineering. Industrial electronics is the interface between power electronics and industrial application processes and technologies. Both fields complement each other in teaching and research in an excellent way, so that the TU Ilmenau can cover a broad spectrum in research and teaching for the growth market of power and industrial electronics. This networking has resulted in new courses such as "Design of Power Electronic Switches" and "Technological Power Supplies", which have established themselves as a fixed component of Master's training in engineering courses.

Since the establishment of the Chair of Industrial Electronics, 45 Bachelor's/Master's theses and three doctoral theses have been successfully completed. Three further doctoral students are currently supervised by Prof. Reimann. The research results of the department resulted in about 40 scientific publications in journals and at international conferences. The Group is a member of the Thuringian Energy Research Institute at TU Ilmenau (ThEFI), formerly the Institute for Energy, Drive and Environmental Systems Engineering (IEAU), which Prof. Reimann headed as director from 2009 to 2012. In addition, he coordinates the competence field of power electronics and functional integration at the Thuringian Innovation Center Mobility (ThIMo).

Prof. Reimann is highly committed to the successful development of the Ilmenau technology region and Thuringia as a whole. He is shareholder, founding member and managing director of ISLE GmbH, a spin-off company founded in 1994 by employees of the TU Ilmenau and coordinating co-founder of the endowed professorship "Industrial Electronics". In addition, he is involved as a member of the advisory board of the Technology and Start-up Center Ilmenau, as a member of the supervisory board of the Thüringer Industriecluster Elektronische Mess- und Gerätetechnik Thüringen eG (ELMUG eG) and as co-founder resp. He is also a member of the scientific advisory board of HySON - Förderverein Institut für Angewandte Wasserstoffforschung Sonneberg e.V., which was founded in 2018. In 2021, HySON - Institut für Angewandte Wasserstoffforschung Sonneberg gGmbH emerged from the association, which aims to advance the development of hydrogen technologies, hydrogen systems and corresponding infrastructure facilities and to actively shape the transfer of technology into practice.

As a father of four children, he is also heavily involved in the region's association work.
