Marian Veselý was born on July 14, 1944 in Martin, Slovakia. He successfully completed his studies at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at the Slovak University of Technology (STU) in Bratislava in December 1967 and went on to complete his doctorate there. Following his doctorate, he worked at STU Bratislava, began his first collaboration with TU Ilmenau and came to Ilmenau as a guest lecturer in 1976. His teaching and working years were always at an international level, and cooperation with the TU Ilmenau was a high priority. For decades, Prof. Marian Vesely was committed in many ways to internationalization and the improvement of research and teaching at the TU Ilmenau.

In 1990, Prof. M. Veselý became head of the Chair of Microelectronics. Also in his capacity as Vice-Rector for International Relations from 1994 to 2000, Prof. M. Veselý repeatedly promoted the exchange of scientists and students within the framework of funding programs, e.g. Erasmus, Leonardo or Lubom programs and projects with the TU Ilmenau. During this time, DAAD projects were also generated with the Department of Materials in Electrical Engineering. The IEEE symposium on the implementation of the Bologna Process, organized in Bratislava under the leadership of Prof. M. Veselý, was successfully evaluated for the redesign of the Bachelor's and Master's degree courses in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology at TU Ilmenau. Today, the cooperation between TU Ilmenau and the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava consists of a total of five active partnerships.

Due to his many years of service to the TU Ilmenau, Prof. M. Veselý was made an honorary member of the TU Ilmenau in 2010 and an honorary doctor of the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology in 2016.

We will always remember his great commitment and achievements in science and teaching with gratitude and honor his memory.
