Publication award for outstanding publications

Every two years, TU Ilmenau awards the "Publication Prize" for outstanding publications by its own scientists. The prize is awarded in the categories of mathematics and natural sciences, engineering sciences and economic and social sciences and is endowed with 2000 euros each. Selection criteria are the international visibility, novelty value and interdisciplinarity of the publication.

The Publication Award 2020 in the category "Mathematics and Natural Sciences" went to the Head of the Applied Nanophysics Group, Professor Yong Lei, for the paper "Highly nitrogen doped carbon nanofibers with superior rate capability and cyclability for potassium ion batteries", co-authored with his former colleagues Dr. Yang Xu and Dr. Min Zhou and partners from Shanghai University and East China University of Science and Technology, Shanghai. The article was published in the prestigious journal Nature Communications, Vol. 9 (2018), Article number 1720. https://doi.org/10.1038/s41467-018-04190-z

The Publication Award 2020 in the category "Engineering Sciences" went to Professor Jörg Schumacher, Head of the Fluid Mechanics Group, for publishing the paper "Turbulent superstructures in Rayleigh-Bénard convection" together with his former postdoc Dr. Ambrish Pandey and long-time cooperation partner Prof. Janet Scheel from Occidental College, Los Angeles. The paper also appeared in Nature Communications, Vol. 9 (2018), Article number: 2118. https://doi.org/10.1038/s41467-018-04478-0

The Publication Prize 2020 in the category "Economic and Social Sciences" was awarded to Dr. Simon Oertel, Management/Organization Group, for the publication "How optimal distinctiveness affects new ventures' failure risk: A contingency perspective", which he prepared together with colleagues from FSU Jena.
