TU Ilmenau has been cooperating with Qingdao University of Science and Technology (QUST) in China for 22 years. Prof. Bo Jianquan visited TU Ilmenau again last week for the first time after a long break due to the corona pandemic. He was invited by the Dean of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Prof. Thomas Fröhlich, who met Prof. Bo Jianquan in person for the first time since taking over his position and as program manager for the cooperation with QUST. In previous years, only virtual meetings were possible.

Prof. Bo Jianquan is the Dean of Studies of the Chinese-German Technical Faculty (CDTF) at QUST and has been TU Ilmenau's contact person in Qingdao since the first cooperation agreement in 2011. TU Ilmenau's cooperation takes place within a network of five German universities under the leadership of Paderborn University.

Chinese students are prepared at the CDTF for a Master's degree in mechanical and electrical engineering in Germany, e.g. at TU Ilmenau. The Chinese students receive German language tuition as part of their bachelor's degree course.

CDTF students have been successfully selected to study at TU Ilmenau for ten years now. This is done on the basis of selection interviews in Qingdao, which are conducted jointly by representatives of the CDTF and TU Ilmenau (program managers and representatives of the Languages Department at ZIB) and also constitute the Master's aptitude test.

According to the outcome of the talks, the successful cooperation is to be extended to the Master's degree course in Technical Cybernetics and Systems Theory in addition to the Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering and Information Technology courses.
