previous knowledge and experience

Fundamentals of electronics, Fundamentals of electrical engineering, Semiconductor devices 1

learning outcomeAfter the lectures and exercises, the students have acquired an overview on current semiconductor devices: the physical background, typical applications and physical limits
of different device technologies.
Capabilities: The students have a profound understanding of the main semiconductor devices and
valuation of their advantages and disadvantages.  They know current difficulties and developments in device-technologies and have knowledge of recent research approaches.
Competences: Students
understand the physical background of different semiconductor devices, their scaling
limits and functional principles.
content1-Field-Effect Tranisitors and beyond: repetition of Semiconductor devices 1 (MOS capacitor, the classical MOSFET), moderen types of Field-Effect Tranisitors
2-Device Scaling: Moore's law, Scaling MOSFET, Short channel effects

3-Limits of Binary Computation: Binary states variables, physical limits of computation
4-Random Access Memories: DRAM, Flash memories (EPROM, EEPROM), FeRAM ,FeFET, MTJ, MRAM
5-Resistive Random Access Memories: the memory gap problem, PCM, FTJ, ECM and VCM, TCM
