"Introduction to Scientific Work"

"Quantitative Methods"

learning outcome

Through the lecture the students know with which objectives and with which results media contents are systematically analyzed in communication science, but also in media psychology and media conception (professional competence).

Through the lecture, students know which methods of quality and evaluation research are used to empirically examine media content and can select a suitable method for dealing with a media content problem (subject competence).

Through the lecture, students understand the difference between quantitative and qualitative content analysis and are able to choose the appropriate method for dealing with a media content problem (subject competence).

Through the exercise, students are able to select the appropriate method of quantitative content analysis for their problem (e.g. online content analysis or audiovisual content analysis) and apply it independently according to scientific criteria (subject and methodological competence).

content

The online lecture "Media Content Research" introduces the questions, theories, methods and results of media content research in communication science.

The method of quantitative media content analysis, which is central to communication science, is applied by the students themselves in the accompanying face-to-face exercise, in which selected media content is empirically examined in their own small research projects.
