Foundations of Microeconomics

Lernergebnisse und erworbene KompetenzenUpon successful completion of the learning process of this course, students are able to:
  • recognize competitive interaction in realistic market environments (oligopolies; presence of competition rules and regulatory institutional frameworks); 
  • present and explain theories of advanced modern economics; 
  • assess theoretical and empirical problems in economics and institutions on a high academic level; 
  • provide a scientific analysis of current topics and problems of economics including a sound and theory-driven pro and con analysis;
  • apply scientific methods to purpose-designed problems of the economy and derive expert-level conclusions;
  • understand and interpret state-of-the-art economic literature and put them into context of self-researched institutional conditions;
  • reflect upon the institutional framework of the economy and its interrelation to the political and social system.
By building up competences in the working mechanisms of economic, political and legal institutions in Europe and Germany, this module contributes to both the business-economics content of the program and to the society-related goals of the program (supporting the development of students to become responsible citizens).

4. Governance and Markets in the medium run (Grebel)

5. Money, Inflation/Deflation, and Economics Crisis (Budzinski)

6. Institutions and the Interface between the Economy and the Law (Mendelsohn) 

The module requires careful preparation and self-repetition of lecture contents. Furthermore, intensive self-study based upon lecture materials and literature (a literature list will be provided in the lecture) is part of the regular contents of this course. This includes to follow the economic developments in Europe and the world by self-study.
