Inhalt

Security, Development and Communication in an African Context

The seminar provides insights into the complex relationship between development, security and communication in Africa. It focuses on projects of the "Sahel Alliance," a platform for promoting stability and development in the Sahel region of West Africa that includes organizations such as the European Union, the African Development Bank, the United Nations, and the World Bank. As a case study, participants will design a campaign of development and security interventions for stakeholders and communities in Liptako-Gourma, the border region between Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger.

The seminar is a joint project involving students from the Universities of Groningen, Ilmenau, Münster and Regensburg. It will take place as a 4-day block seminar (May 17-20, 2021) in the city of Münster, pandemic situation permitting. Accommodation and train travel from Ilmenau to Münster and back will be provided free of charge by the organizers. Participants will therefore only have to cover the cost of meals (breakfast and lunch will be provided at reduced prices; dinner on the first day of the seminar will be sponsored by the organizers). The group trip to Münster will take place on Sunday, May 16, 2021; the return to Ilmenau will be on Thursday evening, May 20, 2021.
